Thank you for using our store.  In accordance with the Al-Anon Traditions, we value your privacy and attempt to use a minimum of your personal information to conduct our business with you.  If you have questions or concerns about this policy or our use of your personal information, pleas contact us a aisla@alanonla.org.

When you use our websites: alanonla.org or shop.alanonla.org you provide us with your personal information.  This document describes what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have in relation to it.  Please read this document carefully.  It is important.  If you are uncomfortable with anything in this privacy policy, please discontinue the use of our sites and let us know what’s wrong.

This policy applies to all of the information we collect through alanonla.org, shop.alanonla.org, as well as other websites that we may employ from time to time.  Information is collected through our shopping cart, our subscriptions, contact pages,  and through cookies that we employ to improve your experience with our websites.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We collect personal information that you provide to us: name, address, contact information, passwords, security data, payment information and network address.

You volunteer much of the above information when you express in interest in obtaining information about our products and services, when purchasing goods and services from us, and when contacting us.  We collect the minimum information that makes it possible for us to conduct a business or information transaction.  Your personal information that we collect will include the following:

  • Purchase related data:  We collect your first and last name, address, email address, phone number, information that identifies your Al-Anon group meeting, and information regarding your credit card (if you use one).  We use PayPal to process all credit cards, debit cards, and other PayPal transactions.  PayPal has its own Privacy Statement.
  • Contact related data.  We collect your first name, last name, email address, and possibly your telephone number for subscriptions to our newsletter and requests for information or support.
  • Automatically collected information:  Your IP address and/or browser and device characteristics is automatically collected when you visit our websites.  This information doesn’t reveal your name or contact information but may include other information such as your device’s operating system, language preference, device name,country location and how and when you use our sites.  This information is used to maintain the security and operation of our sites and for internal analytics and reporting purposes.  We collect this information through cookies and similar technologies.

How Do We Use Your Information

We use your personal information collected via our sites for specific business purposes which are described below. 

  • Al-Anoncer Subscriptions:  We maintain a record of your email address and your optionally provided first and last name in order to email a monthly copy of the our Al-Anoncer newsletter.
  • Administrative information:  We may use your personal information to send you product, service and new feature information and/or information regarding changes to our terms, conditions, and policies.  We may use this information to request feedback or to contact you about your use of our sites.
  • Order information:  We use your information to full and manage your orders, payments, returns, and exchanges made through the sites.
  • Other business purposes:  We may use your information for such purposes as data analysis, usage trends, and to evaluate and improve our websites, products, services and your experience.

Will Your Information Be Shared with Anyone?

We only share your information with your consent, to comply with laws, to protect your rights, or to fulfill business obligations.  We may process or share your data based on the following legal basis:

  • Consent:  We may use your data if you have given us specific consent to use your personal information in a specific purpose.
  • Legal Obligations:  We may disclose your information where we are legally required to do so in order to comply with applicable law, governmental requests, a judicial proceeding, or legal process such as in response to a court order or a subpoena (including in response to public authorities to meet national security or law enforcement requirements).
  • Vital Interest:  We may disclose your information where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or act regarding potential violations of our policies, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person and illegal activities, or as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

Specifically, we may need to process your data and share your information with Vendors, Consultants, and other Third-Party Service Providers who provide services for us or on our behalf and who require access to your information in order to do that work.  Examples include payment processing, email delivery, and customer service.  We may allow selected third parties to use tracking technology on our websites which will let them collect data about how you interact with our sites over time.  Unless described in this policy we do not share, sell, rent or trade your information with third parties.

Who Will Your Information Be Shared With?

We share information with the following third parties:

  • Content Optimization:      Google Site Search.
  • Web & Mobile Analytics: Google Analytics
  • Invoice and Billing:           Paypal
  • Website Hosting:               BlueHost.com

Do We Use Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies

Yes, we do use various web analytic tools (such as Googe Analytics) to help analyze how users use the site and to help us identify areas for improvement.  A Google analytics cookie is used to produce statistics on how the site is used. 

Cookies allow our websites to distinguish a user’s browser to remember previous visitor activities in an anonymous form and any preferences or information that may have been provided while a user was visiting the site.  An example of this usage allows a user to initiate a shopping experience, leave the site and then rejoin the site and continue with their earlier shopping experience. 

A cookie is a small string of text that our website sends to your browser.  It cannot retrieve any other data from your hard drive, pass on computer viruses, or capture your email address.  You can prevent cookies from working on your computer by changing your browser settings.  Use the help function in your browser’s control panel.  Opt out of Google Analytics cookies at https://google.com/dipage/gaoptout/.

Do We Use Google Maps?

Yes, we do.  Google Maps is used to help you find meetings and to show where our Office/Store is located.  Google Maps Terms of Service By using our Google Maps implementations (alanonla.org) you agree to be bound by Google’s Terms of Service and Google’s Privacy Policy. 

How Long Do We Keep Your Data?

We keep your information only for as long as is necessary to meet the purposes outlined in this privacy policy unless a longer retention period is required by law (tax accounting or other legal requirements).

When we no longer have a need for your personal information we will delete it.

How Do We Keep Your Data Safe?

We have appropriate technical and procedural measures in place to guard the security of any information we possess.  The internet, unfortunately, is a dangerous place and we cannot give a 100% guarantee that your information is secure.  We will do our best to protect your information.  However, the transmission of your personal information to and from our website is at your own risk.  Please only access our store and other services from a secure environment.

Do We Collect Data From Minors?

We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18 years of age.  By using our websites you represent that you are at least 18 or that you are the parent or guardian of a minor child and consent to such minor dependent’s use of our websites.  If you are aware of any data we have collected from a child under age 18 please contact us at aisla@alanonla.org.

What Are Your Privacy Rights?

In California, you have certain rights under applicable data protection laws.  In some circumstances you may have the right to object to processing your personal information.  To make such a request, email us at aisla@alanonla.org.  We will consider your request and act upon it in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

California Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the “Shine The Light” law, permits California resident to request information about categories of personal information (if any) that we have disclosed to third parties.  This information consists of the names and addresses of all third parties with which we shared personal information in the immediately preceding calendar year.  You may request this information from us once a year and without charge.  To request this information, email us at: aisla@alanonla.org.

We rely on your consent to process your personal information which is implied when you make a purchase or request for services. 

Cookies and similar technologies:  Web browsers accept cookies by default.  You can choose to set your browser to remove or reject cookies.  Rejecting or removing cookies can affect certain features or services of our sites.

Controls for Do-Not-Track Features

Most web browsers and some operating systems include a Do-Not-Track setting that you can activate to prevent your online browsing activities from being monitored and collected.  There is no uniform standard for recognizing and reacting to these DNT signals and the software that we use to implement our websites may not react to such a signal.  If such a standard is adopted that we are required to follow we will inform you about that practice in a revision of this Privacy Policy.

Do We Make Updates to this Policy?

We will update this policy as necessary to be compliant with applicable laws.  The updated version will be indicated by a change in the date at the beginning of this document.  The updated version will be effective as soon as it is accessible.
